AMBROSE, Ernest Reynolds DDS May 12, 1926 - June 1, 2011 It is with deep sadness that the family of Ernest (Ernie) Ambrose, age 85 years, announces his passing on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at the Oliver Lodge in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Ernest was predeceased by his wife, Patricia (nee Douglas) and eldest son, Douglas. Ernest is survived by his second wife, Norma (nee Douglas-Watt); Ernest and Patricias children: Linda (the late Jon Fyshe), Brian, Kevin (Valaria Koren), Susan (John Lyon), Stephen, Janet (Richard Lecoupe); his beloved grandchildren: Alona (Mark Holzer), Benjamin, Joshua , Jared, Ashleigh, Julianna, Evangelina and numerous nieces and nephews. Dr. Ernest Ambrose was a professor and dean of Dentistry at McGill University and at the University of Saskatchewan. He received the Master Teacher Award in 1993 from the University of Saskatchewan. There is a scholarship and a professorship in his name at the Faculty of Dentistry at McGill University. Ernie was a devoted father and husband, compassionate dentist and teacher. He was an avid fisherman and introduced his children and grandchildren to the love of fishing. His family fondly remember many happy times around the Montreal dinner table and summers at Lake Diefenbaker in the condo and on the houseboat. He will be dearly missed. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 4th, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th Street, turn right before rail crossing). Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens. ANDERSON, Christina Cameron We are sad to announce the passing of Chris Anderson on May 31, 2011. Beloved sister and aunt, she was survived by eight nieces and nephews, one sister-in-law and twenty-three great-nieces and nephews. Chris was predeceased by her parents, one sister and four brothers. She was born in Scotland and resided in Elnora, and Calgary. Chris worked at Husky Oil and then The Federal Government. She was a very active lady. She enjoyed hiking, skiing, golfing, cruising and volunteering. She will be sadly missed by all. Bannerman, Robert

BANNERMAN, Robert Bruce June 4, 1927 - June 1, 2011 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bob Bannerman. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. Bob was born in 1927 in Calgary, and lived there all his life except for the four years he spent at the University of Alberta earning his Bachelor of Commerce degree. Bob and his dad, Jack Bannerman, owned Bannerman Insurance Ltd for many years. After his father's retirement, Bob ran the business, enjoying the company of every person he met. Bob was highly respected in the insurance industry. He was President of both the provincial and national Insurance Brokers Associations, and was named Insurance Man of the Year for Canada in 1969. Bob was also a long-time community volunteer for many organizations locally and internationally. He was head usher for the Calgary Stampeders Booster Club for many years and volunteered in Dominica and Poland for Canadian Executive Services Overseas (CESO). He was a Trustee for Scarboro United Church for fifty years. Especially close to his heart was his work at Connaught Community School, where he volunteered every Tuesday morning to help children learn English as a Second Language. The kids loved "Mr. Bob", and sent a mountain of hand-drawn cards and letters when he was in the hospital last year. Most of all, Bob loved his family. He was happily married to Norma for fifty-eight years, involved in all of his children's lives, and delighted in his five grandchildren. Cherishing many happy memories of his wonderful sense of humour and times spent together, are his wife Norma, his children Ginny Bannerman (Don Radford), John Bannerman (Nadine), Rob Bannerman (Lisa), his granddaughters, Elyse and Katie Bannerman, and grandsons, Ryan, Bradley and Jordan Bannerman. BERTRAM, Dave February 7, 1937 - May 27, 2011 Dave Bertram passed away on Friday, May 27, 2011 at the age of 74 after a long and courageous battle with kidney disease. Dave was born February 7, 1937 in Calgary, Alberta. He is survived by his three children, David Bertram, Janice Bertram, and Karen (Greg) Judge and grandson Jarod Judge, all of Calgary, AB. He is also survived by his brother Fred (Lorraine) Bertram of Bancroft, ON; sister-in-law June (Jim) McGuigan of Port Coquitlam, BC; brother-in-law Robert (Barbara) Hospodarec of Irvine, CA, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his wife Olga (Hospodarec) Bertram and parents Frederick and Elizabeth (Treiber) Bertram. Dave had a long and successful career in the oil industry, finishing with Canadian Occidental Petroleum as the Senior VP of Finance. Dave had a real passion for life and loved music, playing golf, cooking and spending time with his family. Laughter was a regular occurrence as he loved to share jokes. He easily befriended those that he met and was a true joy to spend time with. Dave will be missed by many, especially by his family who shared a great love and respect for him. Special thanks to the staff of the Dr. Vernon Fanning Centre for all the love and special care they provided for Dave during his time there. CHUTE, Ruby Cecilia On Saturday, May 28, 2011, Ruby Chute (nee Heagy), of Edmonton, AB, formerly of Calgary, went peacefully to be with her Lord and Saviour at the age of 84. Ruby was born at Lisieux, SK on January 21, 1927. She attended school at Lisieux, SK (Little Woody School) and Regina, SK (high school and secretarial school). She served alongside Harvey, her husband of fifty-seven years, as a pastors wife in several churches across Canada: Loon River, SK; Wainwright, AB; Lakeview, ON; Midland, ON; Whitehorse, YT; and Calgary, AB. In addition to this, she took on other jobs to help support her family. She worked many years as a secretary in Regina, Whitehorse, and Abbotsford as well as working as a realtor in Calgary. She was also a passionate participant in TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly) and KOPS (Keep Off Pounds Sensibly) in Calgary. As a woman who loved the Lord with all her heart, she enjoyed spending time with her family, being involved in the local church, having people in her home, quilting, and travelling. For much of the past twenty-two years, she loved to serve others in her home church (Harvest Hills Alliance) in Calgary. Ruby is survived by her six children: Randy (Gloria) Chute of Edmonton, AB; Arliss Chute-Ibsen (Dwayne) of Three Hills, AB; Joel (Debbie) Chute of Hong Kong; Trenna (Harvey) Graham of Saskatoon, SK; Coleen (Dave) Kornelsen of Ottawa, ON; Rhonda (Bevan) May of High River, AB; twenty grandchildren: Aaron (Alexis), Matthew (Jaclyn), Stephen (Danielle), Kirsten, Stephanie, Venessa, Justin, Nathan (Jasmine), Ryan, Janelle, Charissa, Ashlea, Jordaen, Kent, Cameron, Colin, Katelyn, Mackenzie, Cecilia, Mackinley; and one great-grandchild, Hannah. She is survived by two sisters: Esther Burke and Francis (Arnold) Reimer; as well as four brothers: Floyd Heagy, Rodney (Anna) Heagy, Clare (Vange) Heagy, and Vincent (Susan) Heagy. She is fondly remembered by the Chute family as well as by many nieces and nephews. She was born in Regina, SK to James and Theresa Deacon (ne Deck). Marilyn loved her grandchildren, her dogs, music and laughter. Although faced with difficulties over the course of her illness, she retained her dignity and above all her sense of humour. Harper, Hugh

HARPER, Hugh AubreyFebruary 11, 1932 - June 1, 2011With his family at his bedside Hugh died peacefully at Cedars Villa on Wednesday morning at the age of 79. Hugh was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and educated at Campbell College in Ireland and Stowe School in England. After completing his education he went to work and live in England where he met and married Jean. They immigrated to Canada on their tenth wedding anniversary with their two children Adrian and Judith, arriving in Calgary by train, where they have since lived. Hugh was a dedicated husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed being with his family and sharing his keen sense of humor. Where ever Hugh went he always had a kind word for others and people were drawn to him. Hugh enjoyed learning new skills, such as flying, target shooting, fishing, cooking and led a full life. Hugh loved to travel to new places with Jean. Hugh will be dearly missed by his loving wife Jean, son Adrian (Tala), daughter Judith (Brad); and grandchildren, Blair, Mark, and Shaelyn Harper and Kyle, and Selene Atherton. Hugh was predeceased by his parents Hugh and Liz, also his sister Alison, and his brother Ian and survived by his sister Heather. Hayward III, William

HAYWARD III, William Tyson October 10, 1916 - January 19, 2011 Bill passed away at home in the loving arms of his wife Catherine on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at the age of 94 years. He was born in Babylon, New York to Jane L. Bauman and William T. Hayward II. Bill was an avid sportsman and enjoyed the outdoors his entire life. He won many awards throughout his school years at Tome Preparatory in Maryland and Pawling School in New York for excellence in swimming, football, lacrosse, hockey, soccer, marksmanship and sailing in Star class boats. He competed in the Olympic trials for the Star class in 1936 coming in second in the finals and winning the first race of the Atlantic Coast Championships in 1947. He played amateur hockey at Madison Square Garden. Bill served as a Captain, Field Artillery Battalion, in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was awarded the Silver Star and the Oak Leaf Cluster for gallantly in action. After the war Bill resumed working for U.S. Steel Export and was sent to Alberta in 1950 as a special representative of the company. His love of Alberta won his heart and his Citizenship. In 1956 he went to work for Alberta Phoenix Tube and Pipe Ltd. as a sales executive, where he remained until 1970. He then formed his own consulting company known as Tyson Trading Ltd. He was a respected and influential member of the oil patch for many years and took an active role in the community. Although he stopped competing in sailing once he moved to Canada, it remained his passion along with golf and skiing. Bill was a long-time member of the Calgary Golf & Country Club, The Glencoe Club and The Reveller's. He was a governor for The Oilman's in 1954 and participated in the Oilman's Tournament for many years. Bill will always be remembered for his sense of humor, kindness, loyalty and his love of animals, especially his dogs. He was a true gentleman. He believed in living life to the fullest. Although he was very ill towards the end of his life, he never gave up his determination to try to overcome each illness as it came. His love and devotion to his wife Catherine will always be remembered. Bill is survived by his devoted wife Catherine and her family. He leaves behind his children Susan Werner (Jack) of Elverson, PA, Brenda Deines (Alan) of Littleton, CO, Cynthia MacLeod (Pat) of Northbrook, IL, W. Tyson Hayward IV of Atascadero, CA and grandchildren Alexandra and Parker Deines. Also mourning his loss are his former daughter-in-law Sherine Duncan and her two children Leanna and Spencer. Holm, Helen

HOLM, Helen Crawford (nee Hood) October 9, 1919 - May 30, 2011 Helen was born and raised in Calgary, attended King Edward High School and then went on to train as a registered nurse at the Calgary General Hospital - graduating in 1942. Helen met Eric at the Ogden Munitions Depot in Calgary and they were married on March 26, 1945. In 1948 Helen and Eric moved to Drumheller, and for the next sixty-three years, Drumheller was home. Those years flew by as Helen belonged to a "sewing circle"; curled in the winter; golfed in the summer; enjoyed summer holidays at Shuswap Lake; was secretary of the Drumheller and District Music Festival; and returned to nursing on the night shift at the T.R. Ross Nursing Home. She then began a job that she loved and looked forward to every day - clinic nurse at the Drumheller Associated Physicians Clinic. She worked at the clinic for seventeen years, retiring at age sixty-five. Retirement was not a time to slow down, but rather to do new things. Helen delivered Meals on Wheels; helped with the costumes for Drumheller's Passion Play; was a member of the Drumheller Hospital Board; and enjoyed numerous trips with Eric. Helen was always one to look for the humor in any situation. She was happiest when looking forward to a special occasion with friends or the next time her kids, grandkids or great-grandchildren would be visiting. Moving to the Sunshine Lodge in 2010, saw her join many old friends and make many new friends. Helen told everyone how much she enjoyed living at Sunshine Lodge. Helen is survived by her three children: Gordon (Leslie) Olds, Alberta, Stuart (Mary) Richmond, B.C, and Barb (Barry Martini) St. Paul, Alberta; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and by her brother Dick Hood (Thora) Campbell River, B.C. She was predeceased by Eric, her husband of sixty years; her parents Minnie and Robert Hood; her brother Robert Hood (Mary); and her sister Frances (Leo Gommerud). Helen will be sadly missed and always remembered by those who knew her. LEE, Jack August 27, 1934 - June 2, 2011 Jack Lee of Calgary, passed peacefully away on Thursday, June 2, 2011, at the age of 76 years. A true Albertan and proud Calgarian, Jack was born in Crossfield, AB, as the third child and second son of Charlie (Ho Shuit) Lee of Canton, China, and Mabel Lowe of Victoria, B.C. He is survived by his aunt, Lil Quan, of Victoria, B.C., and by his brother Raymond (Loretta) Lee and sister Ruby (George) Fong, both of Calgary. He is also survived by nephews Larry Fong and Brian Fong of Calgary, Brad (Eleanor) Lee of Toronto, Mike (Kelly) Lee of Calgary, and niece Karen (Kevin) Tom of Madison, New Jersey, and their families. Fondly known as "Uncle Jack" to his extended family and many friends, Jack worked for thirty-two years at the old post office in downtown Calgary and at the Harry Hays federal building before retiring in 1989. After retiring, he enjoyed his painting and good conversation, and his art was shared with many of his friends. Jack also loved sports, cheering for the Vancouver Canucks and the Calgary Stampeders. He was optimistic about life and when he passed away it was with hope in his heart. Karen was born in North Bay, ON and raised in Sudbury. As a teen, Karen was a competitive swimmer and carried her passion for sports into adulthood. ROWE, Robert Burton (Bob) October 20, 1925 - June 1, 2011 Bob Rowe, beloved husband of Rita of Calgary, passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at the age of 85 years. Bob received his B.Sc. at the University of Western Ontario in 1947, Masters Degree at the University of Toronto in 1948 and completed his PhD. at the University of Wisconsin in 1951. Bob started his career with the Geological Survey of Canada, followed by Dow Chemical Canada and Pacific Petroleum. Besides his loving wife Rita, Bob is survived by his three children, Elizabeth (Ilka) Salokannel, William (Bunny) Rowe and John (Bonnie) Rowe; and grandchildren, Tyler, Chelsea and Ben. Throughout her career as a teacher, counsellor, and school administrator, Ellory was a passionate advocate for children and families. Ellory was a very special person, who touched the lives of countless people, and she will live on in our hearts and minds. SVARICH, Nestor John Nestor John Svarich passed away peacefully on June 1, 2011, surrounded by family at the Chinook Hospice in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 82 years. Nestor was born in Vegreville, Alberta and lived his early life in this northern Alberta small town. He graduated from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Science degree and began his early career in Western Canada's seismic industry, affectionately known as doodlebuggers. As a geophysicist he worked for both large and small oil and gas companies and in his latter years as a consultant. Nestor and wife June of fifty-four years enjoyed their Collingwood home since having it built in 1960. For many years Nestor was a proud and passionate member of the Calgary Philharmonic Choir. He also enjoyed a membership in the Calgary Science Astronomy Club, as well as being an avid participant in "The Canoe Club" which he shared with his son Terry, and grandson Nicholas and his treasured canoe club friends. Nestor's love of family was always foremost, accompanied with his love of music. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed birds, and his "paradise" cabin at Mabel Lake where he was so very happy with friends and family. Nestor is survived by his son Terry (Judy), grandson Nicholas and granddaughter Natalie; and daughter Dianne (Mike), granddaughters Vanessa and Leanne. He is also survived by sister Staffka Makofka, sisters-in-Iaw Norma (Elmer) Thiessen and Doreen Hoffman, brother-in-law Ray (Joan) Hoffman, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Nestor was predeceased by his beloved wife June, brother Roman, sisters, Zonia, Ollie, Natalka, Helen, Vera and Nadia. VALERIO, Anthony "Tony" August 28, 1923 - June 1, 2011 After a life well lived, Tony passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at the age of 87 years. Tony was born in "L.A.", Lethbridge, Alberta. He attended St. Patrick's High School (Grade 12). At age eighteen, he enlisted in the military and served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as an armourer from 1943 to 1945 in Calgary, Ireland and Wales. After the war, the Department of Veterans Affairs sent Tony to Calgary to train as a tinsmith. It was here that he met the love of his life, Nina Carloni and together they raised their four children. Tony retired as a sheet metal worker, from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and Art in 1984, having worked there for twenty-eight years. He was a proud Canadian Italian and volunteered many hours with Columbus Credit Union, Calgary Italian Club and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. Tony leaves behind his wife of sixty-one years Nina; daughter Annette (Bradley Gell); son Adrian; daughter Adele (Dean Zuchetto); grandchildren, Logan, Marissa, Chiara Gell, Keegan and Samantha Valerio, Amy and Ryan Zuchetto. Tony is also survived by his brother Eugene (Anne) of Ramsey, MN; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Anna and Aldo Bercan as well as numerous loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends that he treasured. Tony was predeceased by his daughter Alvina; sister Phyllis; and brother Leonard. WHEELANS, Robert Arthur 1930 to 2011 Bob passed away on June 2 after a short illness. He is survived by his sister Margaret, son Rob and his wife Karen and granddaughters Carly and Megan, his daughter Lyndsay and her partner Allison. He was predeceased by Ruth, his wife of 34 years and his long time companion Emily Barker of 16 years. Bob was born in Winnipeg, and grew up near the Red River where he leaRned to fish, swim and canoe. In 1975 he married Ruth and moved to Calgary where he worked as an accountant for a junior oil company. He joined ATCO when it was still run out of its founder's basement, selling trailers, camps, portables, even schools all over western Canada. Later he joined a start-up modular building company in Edmonton, after which he become a partner in a several residential construction companies. He never really retired, keeping his hand in ongoing construction projects. Bob was respected as a man of his word and for his integrity. He got things done. He did his way. We will miss his blue eyes, charm and personability. Thank you to the staff at Touchmark & the staff on 9-Y At the Edmonton General. Trevor spent thirty successful years in the Alberta oil industry as a salesman for Eskimo (Edmonton) and Dressler (Edmonton). He concluded his career with Canadian Fracmaster in Calgary.
